Mongolia
Medical Aviation is a branch of Gospel
Ministries International with David Gates. Right now we're an
infant ministry in the process of establishing ourselves in full-time
mission service in Mongolia. The purpose of our ministry is to reach
the people of Mongolia first physically, then spiritually. We hope
to do this in a number of ways.
First,
we are focusing on a medical air evacuation service. The nomadic
people of Mongolia are very isolated in terms of emergency medical
care. Far from decent roads or well-equipped hospitals, when there
is a traumatic accident, or an emergent medical problem, they are
almost without recourse. To be precise, the only governmental resources
for medical evacuation are four Russian jeeps, and days of travel
over extremely rough roads, which are seasonally impassable. To
some parts of the country, there are intermittent commercial flights,
but you might wait a week.
Secondly,
agriculture and health teaching are some of our other focuses. The
diet of the people in Mongolia consists mostly of meat and milk.
Because of an extremely cold environment, -60 in many places in
the winter time, agriculture is challenging, and special methods/crops
need to be taught. Once the people have access to more food options,
a more variegated and healthful diet can be encouraged.
Thirdly,
our most futuristic purpose is to assist the people in developing
new entrepreneurial skills. Many of the people are solely dependant
upon their animals for their livelihood, creating great hardship
if the animals themselves experience famine, disease, or other devastations.
God has
placed His seal of blessing on our ministry, and as we move forward
in faith, it is exciting to see how He has continued to provide.
So far, we have spent two summers in Mongolia, preparing to move
there full time this spring. With God's blessing we have bought
an apartment in Mongolia in the capital city of Ulaanbataar, and
just recently purchased an airplane for Mongolia. Though neither
of these project investments are fully paid for, we have no doubt
that God will continue to provide for our needs.
Isaiah
6:8 "Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, 'Whom shall
I send, and who will go for us?' Then said I, 'Here am I; send me.'"
